The beaches have received the most prestigious awards including the "finest and whitest sand in the world" and the "Best of the Best Sand." The clean, turquoise waters in the Gulf are very warm and the beaches shelve gently making idea conditions for families and swimmers of all ages. There are bottlenose dolphins, manatees, pelicans and other birds.
Some Sarasota beaches are occupied by hotels and condominium complexes but there are excellent public beaches as well.
Sarasota Homes Sale - Sarasota Beaches - Siesta BeachSiesta Key has Siesta Beach - the most popular Sarasota beach. It is known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Most beaches are made of coral but Siesta Beach is sand which is 99% quartz pulverized to a fine powder.
It stays cool to the touch even under the hot Florida sun. Siesta Beach has also been named as one of "America's Best Beaches"; "Third Best Walking Beach in the USA," by USA Today International Edition; and "The Best of the Best Sand," by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.
The public beach is in the center of the key with Lifeguards who patrol the beach all year round. It is the widest beach in the county and certainly the most popular. On its busiest weekends it can attract as many as 15,000 people. There are excellent amenities.
Water sports of every kind add color and excitement. Pine trees provide a shaded area for picnicking with grills for cooking out and a playground. The 800-car parking lot is frequently full.
The gently sloping beaches and the shallow water together with year round lifeguards make this one of the safest most popular beaches in the County.
Sarasota Homes Sale - Sarasota Beaches - Crescent BeachCrescent Beach is just south of Siesta Key Public Beach and stretches for about one and a half miles towards Point of Rocks. It is excellent for snorkelling and scuba diving and ideal for swimming. It is usually a little less crowded than Siesta Beach.
Sarasota Homes Sale - Sarasota Beaches - Longboat Key BeachesUnless you are staying on Longboat Key you will not be able to use Longboat Beach because private houses and condos block the access but you can drive the length of Longboat Key and admire the luxury homes.
Although public access is at a minimum, blue and white "Beach Access" signs labelled Neptune Avenue Beach or Mayfield Street Beach provide relatively limited access. Both these beaches are on the Gulf but are less well known, and secluded. The beaches here are wide and the sand is soft.
Nearby Lido Key and North Lido Beach are easily accessible and so too is South Lido Beach Park.
Whitney Beach is one of the best on Longboat Key and is on the north end of the island. A great place to watch the sun set.
Beer Can Island Beach This is a secluded peninsula at the northern tip of Longboat Key. The 2,000 feet of sandy beach are excellent for shelling. It is best to come by boat or walk to the island at low tide. There are no facilities.
There are many other convenient and exciting beaches worth exploring inclduing Lido Beach just north of St. Armand's Circle.
